Ireland sees record number of people attending marriage counselling services

Ireland’s largest marriage and relationship counselling service, Accord, saw a record number of people in 2004: 8,000 people attended 30,000 sessions.
The main problems causing stress within relationships included both parents working outside the home, longer working hours, increased commuting time, and family budgets.
The rise in numbers doesn’t mean that there is an increase in relationship and marriage problems: it does mean that couples are more open to discussing and resolving differences.
This has to be a good thing.
Communication is key, and if that can be facilitated better by seeking help from an impartial third-party, so be it.
