Stable relationships produce more boys, study suggests

An interesting study by the US National Bureau of Economic Research suggests that mothers in stable relationships are more likely to give birth to boys than girls.

The study found that 51.5 per cent of babies born to couples living together at the time of conception were boys, compared to 49.9 percent among parents who were not.

This isn’t a huge difference, and there are many other factors that could account for this difference.

However, the reseachers say that their theory could explain why numbers of male births are declining in developed countries where women are increasingly giving birth outside a stable relationship.
