Marriage leads to prosperity and helps children, study suggests

A new report suggests that a stable marriage can boost the financial prosperity of couples, and improves the lives of their children. This holds true for same-sex couples.

The poor often see lack of money as a barrier to marriage, but in the long term a healthy marriage can lead to healthy finances.

“The decline in two-parent families since 1960 has been closely linked with a rise in child poverty, primarily because poverty rates are far higher in single-mother families than in two-parent families,” according to the report.
