Call for strong family ties across generations

The new generation of Singaporeans need to put in extra effort to keep family ties strong across generations, especially when the extended family is now geographically and physically extended not just across Singapore, but the world over. てョてョSenior Minister Goh Chok Tong made this call at the launch of this year’s National Family Week. てョてョBonding Generations, Binding Families - reaching out to grandparents, parents and children alike is the theme of this year’s National Family Week. てョてョMr Goh said: “From the new generation Singaporeans, we now have a dispersed extended family network or even cyber families who stay in touch via email. Therefore the occasion is important today, given the new trend context in Singapore, for us to create awareness of grandparenting, parenting and family bonding. If we don’t make the effort, if we’re all so busy, over the next 25 years I dread to think what would happen to the family, as the family is the building block of society.”
